Popes, Palaces and Pontes

Today we went to Avignon to see the Popes Palace.  Do you know what a pope is?  A pope is the head of the Catholic Church, and the Pope right now seems like a pretty good guy.

That has not always been the case. Many many years ago they were bad men who wanted to be in power,  and more than one man wanted that power, so for about 100 years there was a pope living in Avginon  France.

 Finally the church got its act together and moved all the church power back to Rome.  That me does not mean they all became good, but it means that there was no longer a pope in France.  

We got to set the stairs the the popes palace.

 There was a lot of art there that was not very good, at least that is what Auntie said, and Gogi could not figure it out.  

After the palace we stopped for a drink,

and right there in front of us was a carousel, so Auntie, Kathy and Dean just had to have a ride!  

Then we all went to a very big bridge out over the Rhone river.  The building behind Gogi is actually a church!

Maybe Mimi will show you where it is.  Gogi did not let us out because we don't know how to swim, yet!
