A somber day for the Mollies

Today we went to some very important and serious places.  We went to a Cemetary where many, over 6,000 soldiers are buried from World War Two.
A long time ago there was a very bad man named Adolf Hitter who became very powerful because everyone was afraid of him and rather than stand together and do the right thing, they looked away.  And he and people who sucked up to him did many bad things including killing many people.  So The English, Canadians and Americans got together and became Allies (buddies helping each other)  and came to France to tell him NO!  It was hard, though, the soldiers, guys like your mommy and daddy, had to swim in their clothes with all their heavy gear and then climb up a very tall hill while the Germans ( Old Adolf was German) were shooting at them.
Many Many of them died trying to make that bad man quit.  It is so important that you remember to stand up for what is right because the meanness could happen again.
Anyway we were very good today because Auntie was crying because  this place made her feel sad, so we were just very quiet.
We didn't know what to say to her because is was pretty awful, there were so many crosses and Stars of David tomb stones that we could not count them all. The stars ot Davis are impoartant because mean old Hitler hates several groups of people and one group was the Jews.  So when you see one of those stars, that meant a Jewish American was fighting shoulder to shoulder with other Americans for all of our freedom.  Maybe Mimi can explain what a Jew is, if not Auntie will, she 'splained to us.
Mollly started feeling sad too, so Molly B patted her on the back to make her feel better.

On the way to Pont Du Hoc, Gogi was pretty happy because they found cidre, which is sort of fizzy apple juice and she really likes it.
The Place Gogi and Auntie usually go was closed.

Pont Du Hoc is an amazing place, there are still bunkers ( like a fort)  that the Germans used and the Allies had to take away from them so they could stop World War Two!

We got to climb down in someof them with Gogi.

There are big holes in the ground where we bombed the Germans and the tall cliff the soldiers had to climb.

Then we got to go to the beach and look for shells, there are so many smooth stones and shells on the beach there that it is amazing!

The ttide was really far out so you could walk a really long ways out before ypour feet really got in the water.  See this tractor pulling in a boat?

We had fun looking with Auntie for shells.  And we found some good ones, Auntie said you could have one!
